Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of BearSee. By using the service, you agree to these terms.

BearSee is informational only

BearSee provides community and public-source context about bear activity. It is not an emergency service, official government advisory, wildlife management system, route planner, or substitute for local closures, official notices, professional advice, or your own judgment in bear country.

Accounts and authentication

You are responsible for your account and for keeping sign-in methods secure. If you use Google or another provider to sign in, that provider’s terms also apply. BearSee may suspend or remove accounts that abuse the service or create safety, security, or legal risk.

User content

  • You are responsible for sightings, trip reports, photos, descriptions, locations, flags, and other content you submit.
  • You grant BearSee a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce, modify, moderate, and distribute submitted content for operating and improving the service.
  • Do not submit content you do not have permission to share, content that is false or misleading, private personal information, illegal content, harassment, spam, or content that could endanger people, property, or wildlife.
  • BearSee may edit, generalize, hide, remove, or refuse content at any time, especially for safety, privacy, moderation, or data-quality reasons.

Location, safety, and wildlife

Bear locations can be sensitive. Do not use BearSee to approach, harass, feed, track, or disturb wildlife. Always follow local rules, closures, food-storage requirements, and official safety guidance. Carry appropriate safety equipment and know how to use it.

Third-party services and links

BearSee uses and links to third-party services, including maps, authentication providers, hosting, storage, iNaturalist, public data sources, news sources, and Amazon. BearSee is not responsible for third-party content, services, policies, availability, or purchases. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

No warranties

BearSee is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee that reports are complete, accurate, current, safe, available, or suitable for any trip-planning or safety decision.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, BearSee and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for losses related to wildlife encounters, route choices, user content, third-party services, or service unavailability.

Changes

We may update these terms as BearSee changes. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
